‘Ecstatic Dance’ Birthday Celebration
Honouring women who are contributing to their communities
Join together in dance in celebration of Laura’s birthday! Using this occasion as an excuse, we will be raising money for six incredible female artists who, despite endless obstacles, continue to share their gifts with the world and work tirelessly to support the people and communities around them. Their artistry and prowess are a powerful source of courage and healing for those who are blessed enough to encounter them on this journey. Let’s salute these beautiful women who give of themselves for the healing of others.
We will be gathering together through Julia Ray’s ecstatic dance platform, dancing it out to DJ Patsy’s tunes, starting and ending the night with the healing sounds and embodied meditation of Katie and Jaime. All profits from this event will be split between these women to support their art and allow them to continue creating and sharing the beauty that the world so desperately needs.
We will gather to celebrate, dance and connect with ourselves and each other. You can dance as you wish, big or small, lying on the floor or jumping in the air, with your video on or off. We will have a safe space that is inspiring and uplifting. It is also nonverbal, barefoot, and alcohol/drug-free to keep the experience intentional. This is a place where you should feel free to move and express whatever is alive in you & whatever comes up when you shake up your cells.
We are grateful for Josefina and her amazing art which we are using to promote the event!
WHAT IS ECSTATIC DANCE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT AT THIS TIME?
“Ecstatic Dance” is freestyle, transcendental, sacred dance. It is the practice of movement meditation where you are allowed to move however you wish and honour your body. For hundreds of years, “ecstatic dance,” which produces an altered state of mind, has been a popular spiritual movement.
Movement is for everyone and there is no experience necessary! It’s for all ages, genders, cultures and sizes and we dance in bare feet and in silence. We dance in an alcohol-free, recreational drug-free, safe and sacred space. You can join us from the privacy of your very own living room, kitchen, bedroom, porch, car, literally anywhere there’s wifi. We recommend you dance barefoot, in comfortable clothes to move in and have water to drink. Make sure your space is safe around you and let the music take you on a journey!
Dance and creative expression are so important at this time because now more than ever we need ways in which we can connect with our bodies, move our energy, and release what we are storing within us. Ecstatic dance allows us to experience embodied meditation, where our mind takes a break and we allow ourselves to express in the most playful, cathartic, joyful, grounding and embodying ways! If music, dance, community, magic and ecstasy are a few of your favourite things… join us!.
TICKETS: Pay what you can. Suggested donations $5-25. If you are in a tight place with finances no worries, we got you! We’d love you to come celebrate with us! Contact Laura at 416-829-1255 or firstname.lastname@example.org
